The Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Styling and Art Direction at IED Firenze combines visual research, image culture and design practice, addressing current themes such as sustainability, inclusivity and gender. The hands-on approach includes workshops, studio sessions, participation in events such as Pitti, trade fairs and visits to industry companies.
Students acquire technical and creative skills in fashion publishing, visual communication and digital content creation, essential for interpreting new scenarios in image and lifestyle.

Course structure and contents:
The programme spans three years, during which design practice is integrated with cultural knowledge, dialogue with professionals, technical skills development and the use of innovative tools.
In the first year, students build cultural, methodological and technical foundations in fashion styling, with a strong focus on visual communication and personal stylistic identity. They explore the relationship between art, costume and fashion through theoretical courses such as fashion and style history, art and costume history, while developing practical skills in photography, digital image processing and graphic design using professional software. Projects include conceptual moodboards, runway simulations, target definition and two photographic shoots, offering initial experiences in visual design within the fashion system.
In the second year, students deepen styling techniques and experiment with more complex visual languages, working on projects such as menswear, womenswear and accessories shoots, and the simulation of an editorial magazine. Cultural skills are reinforced through methodology and practice courses related to visual production, enabling exploration of new expressive languages through video materials, editing and multimedia content creation. A key part of the programme is the simulation of magazine production, including content, graphics, trend analysis and the development of a personal visual style, resulting in two shoots and a video, laying the foundation for a professional portfolio and a critical vision of contemporary fashion.
In the third year, students achieve project autonomy, preparing them to work in professional contexts. Theoretical subjects, exploring the relationship between fashion and cinema, contemporary art and sociology, provide critical tools to interpret fashion as a cultural phenomenon, while workshops, seminars and interdisciplinary projects offer opportunities to engage with industry realities.
The programme concludes with the thesis project: an editorial shoot for both print and digital publication, curated from concept to photographic production, including post-production and promotional content, demonstrating the ability to interpret the contemporary fashion system by integrating creativity, communication and strategic vision.
